Abstract submissions are invited for consideration for the EMDRAAA Conference 2026, which will be held in Sydney, Friday 1 – Saturday 2 May 2026.

Theme: The conference theme is Transforming Trauma: 35 Years of EMDR Practice, Science and Impact

Venue: Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, Sydney NSW, Australia

Date: Friday 1 and Saturday 2 May 2026

Time: 8:30 am to 5.00 pm

Expected Attendance: 700 allied health professionals

Format: Hybrid conference with in-person and online participants

  • Call for Abstracts Opens: Monday, 15 September 2025
  • Submission Deadline: Sunday, 2 November 2025
  • Notification of Outcome: Friday, 28 November 2025
  • Presenter Registration Deadline: Monday, 15 December 2025
  • Program Launch: January 2026


Presentation Type

Presentations will be accepted for the following categories

  • Oral Presentation
  • Poster Presentation

Authors may select their preferred presentation format from one of the above options. Authors may submit more then one abstract. 

All oral presenters must attend the conference in person and deliver their presentation live.

Please note that the final presentation format is at the discretion of the Scientific Committee and may be different to the author’s nominated format. 


Submission Guidelines

All abstracts submitted for the EMDRAA Sydney Conference 2026 must follow these guidelines.

  • Be written in English using the official abstract submission template.
  • Not exceed 250 words (plus citations)
  • Submit abstracts electronically via the conference website by the closing date (late submissions or abstracts through email will not be considered).
  • Use a brief and explicit title
  • The subject of the presentation must be defined clearly.
  • Must align with the EMDRAA 2026 Conference objective: to celebrate and critically reflect on 35 years of EMDR development and application by showcasing advances in clinical practice, scientific research, and real-world impact. 
  • Explore how EMDR can be used to treat conditions other than single-event traumas and PTSD.
  • Incorporates the use of EMDR therapy across diverse populations, addressing unique needs and cultural considerations to enhance inclusivity and effectiveness in mental health treatment.
  • Applicable to the clinical practice of a wide range of EMDRAA members
  • Supports EMDRAA’s mission: To be the leading Australian authority on best practice EMDR therapy, supporting mental health practitioners
  • Use abbreviations only for common terms (for uncommon terms, write in full first, then include abbreviation in brackets.
  • Conflicts of interest must be declared. Failure to disclose may result in withdrawal of acceptance.
  • Amendments after submission are not guaranteed.
  • Acceptance, timing, presentation format, and discussion are at the discretion of the Organising Committee


Author Responsibilities

  • By submitting an abstract, authors agree to the terms of the Speaker/Author Agreement
  • Presenting authors must register for the 2026 Conference and are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and registration costs. A discounted registration fee will be offered to accepted presenters. 
  • At least one author must register in person for the conference for the abstract to be included
  • Co-authors are not required to register unless they are co-presenting.
  • Presenting authors of accepted abstracts will be offered a discounted early bird registration rate. Co-authors who are not presenting must register at standard rates.
